"Measure A Life"

"Measure A Life"

“Measure A Life”
February 25, 2011

Since the beginning of this year
A few more things have been more clear
I understand the reason for some fights
And I’m embracing god-given rights

Every moment of everyday is a choice
And for too long, I ignored my own voice
But grown now, and standing set aside
I’ve pushed past the parts I wanted to hide

Parents wanting what they think is best
Children become adults just like the rest
With minds conditioned to challenge free thought
Parents in battles about things they forgot

In regards to love, it’s never fair
And a great excuse is still a dare
As age catches me by surprise
I too, see how time just flies

Each day further from childhood past
Closer to midlife, it’s getting close fast
These new memories that I store
Makes  me beg and hope the world for more

These days now, I know are the highlight
Of a life lived and enjoyed right
Now is the time to follow your heart
Before time ages it and the world tears it apart

There’s a part of me deep down
That enjoys the beauties of a small town
And one day, I’ll go to one and live out my days
When skin wrinkles and my hair grays

But for now, that adventurous spirit wanders still
Taking risks just for the rush of a thrill
Gazing at summer night skies, staying out late
Embarking upon the scenic route, the office can wait

Certain things in life people somehow forget
Like the joys of dancing in pouring rain, getting wet
Or seeing a rainbow stretch across clear skies
It’s enjoying the world, that makes people wise

Stop now then, to breathe the air
Smelling the scents present there
Smile at a stranger, Remember a moment treasured
It’s in these ways, life is measured

"Bucket List"

"Bucket List"
February 20, 2011

Before I age beyond functionality's prime
And long before the end of my time
a to-do list for life,  dubbed a bucket list
It’s a road map for the moments I might’ve missed

Roast marshmallows, light it on fire
Showers with warm towels from the dryer
Fireworks and glow sticks to illuminate childhood
Catching fireflies and feeling emotions only children could

Listen to the wind, take a hike alone
Reach out to a stranger, Friendship on loan
Make someone smile, dive out of the sky
Waste away a Sunday, as snow piles high

Spend evenings in good company of friends
What completes a life really just depends
Is it doing something great, or meeting someone new
Maybe  falling in love should be added too

Kiss passionately in the pouring rain
Have a romantic dinner aboard a city-train
See a shooting star, make rocks skip across a lake
Be a witness of a what a miracle can make

On my list, I want to stand and be taken away
By the beauty of this earth, words couldn’t say
For any explanation would be injustice to  the scene
Some marvels are uniquely pristine

But most of all
I want to feel the thrill of a the fall
And when I am caught in this trance
I want to promise myself a fighting chance

These items on a list will simply remind
There’s more to life than what I find
A good life,  is one lived full, and complete
Like watching a beautifully composed symphony on the street

Follow your heart, and that inner desire
Chasing life and passion  on fire
Don't let fear of possibility prevent
The best moments of life you could've spent

"Standards"

"Standards"
February 19, 2011

I had forgotten what it’s like to feel
A spark between someone that’s real
Couldn’t remember where I got stuck
But ever since then, relationships were bad luck

Some things you can’t see from where we are
Only after time has passed by so far
Could we see the bigger picture and meaning
The answer often not where we were leaning

I forgot what the point of a relationship was
As I am sure everyone, at some point does
It is having your own life with someone else to share
And it’s spending time because you like them there

The company, the emotions and the talking
Inside jokes, comedy and accidental facebook stalking
When I decided to stop settling for less
Things weren’t such a mess

I started hanging around people who understood
And my outlook changed as it inevitably would
I didn’t stop for someone who may barely pass
I raised my standards to strain out the mass

To my surprise, treasures were revealed
Lost beneath the crowd and cleverly concealed
Take the time to explore and meet others around
And eventually probability states the rarity will be found

"Something New"
February 15, 2011

It was just how i dreamed
everything random as it seemed
College students running down a hill
Entering the party feeling the thrill

Meeting by what seemed like luck
but maybe this time fate struck
for the interests of the two
seemed more like as time grew

Parting at the midnight hour
going home to take a shower
thinking of how the night did unfold
wondering if actions were too bold

again they meet, surprised at the sight
talking again, if only sparks might
again with chaos, numbers exchanged in haste
hoping that the urgency was not a waste

Days passed before a text appeared
answering question with syntax weird
and acceptance came without guess
starting to be skeptical less

maybe this is just the start of something new
a guy who has some character too
optimism about what the future might hold
if only if only, the brave hearts be bold

"Home Sick"

"Home Sick"
February 9, 2011

My mind is playing a clever trick
I think I might be home sick
I'm supposed to be all grown
Finally out, standing on my own

I still feel like a kid, home alone
Calling my mom on the phone
But here i am, barely an adult
Responsible for consequences of my fault

I wish I could go back, sleep in my bed
relive the high school days I used to dread
Just to be home for a little while
Back before my life was put to test and trial

Those early mornings, racing to beat the bell
and enjoying secret crushes you could never tell
The best friends always there for support
despite the strange shenanigans that would resort

The brisk summer mornings that warmed up by noon
those days came and went way too soon
On my own, off somewhere far away
At a certain age, children just can't stay

They take their life and leave the nest
Go to college, find a career, do their best
sometimes they struggle, sometimes they fall
and sometimes, children never go back at all

But the majority make visits back home
a place where their heart won't roam
For everything you wanted to become
started at the place you're from

All the memories and people back there
it's a group you know will always care
it's a safety net that you know would save
If anything where to look a little grave

Out on my own, I can't help but miss
All the people who brought me to this
though the future does hold a little fear
home sickness passes as memories are made here

"When It's Love"

"When It's Love"
February 4, 2011

Thinking about this crazy thing called love
Sometimes symbolized as a white dove
Wondering whether or not we’ll meet
Oh, I do think it would be quite a treat

Love is something you cannot think
And you could fall into it, with just a blink
The brain tries to tell how the heart must feel
But lately there’s been quite an appeal

You cannot think how you feel, yet feel thought
Thoughts after all come from emotion, do they not?
It’s a addictive type of embrace
Usually putting a smile on your face

Though sometimes it brings about fears
As someone pleads through their tears
It can bring about guilt, and pain
Sometimes putting a heart under strain

However, it can so very carefully heal
And it can have an effect super surreal
It makes you want more for that one
Because their happiness is more fun

It makes you act like a fool
And most days it can be cruel
But it has a softer side
One that will often hide

It will raise you up, feeling more
Being tangled in love is hardly a bore
While you have it,  you don’t see
How beautiful it could truly be

But when you want it and can’t find
People will go out of their mind
Trying to catch it, just to feel it again
Oh yes, love remembers back then

When you start forgetting how great
Love starts to make you hate
Enough to let it go, just to see
That oh yes, this is not how it should be

Then to join a chase
Just to get back to that place
in the race to find it once more
Love never tries to even a score

So may you be a foolish wit
and fall in love just a little bit
because it's better when you fall
suddenly, nothing else couldn't matter at all

"The Persuit"

"The Pursuit"
February 2, 2011

There’s a sensation overcoming my mind
Created from moments forgot or left behind
It’s something quite different and unique
There’s no cons for me to critique

Trying hard to define
Something simply divine
It’s a higher emotion for sure
Never better, for what were

It’s like a passion was set free
Giving reason to what wants to be
A special type of feeling
It’s aftermath is just so appealing

People chase this high
And now I’m understanding why
It’s an understanding with acceptance
Creativity imagined from misunderstood brilliance

It’s unpredictable, unable to accurately anticipate
This phenomena that facilitates neurons to elate
Misdirected intention led to false actualization
One that produced some sort of complication

But this sensation doesn’t care
About people, how or where
It doesn’t judge, but it knows morality
Determining its presence on that principality

It’s very rare to come across it on your own
Or even with someone you’ve hardly known
But it’s unpredictable and may surprise
Attempting to surface where opportunity lies

It’s hidden beneath detection of plain sight
An opportunity undercover if chosen right
Careful to reveal itself only to those who earned
A right to feel the karmic balance returned

For bad as it was, it became something great
Sometimes things seem to arrive a little late
But it appeared at just the right time
To ignore it would be a cosmic crime

It cannot be simply found
Often a journey, by which some are bound
You may search an entire incarnation
Never encountering it along the duration

Unable to be sold or bought
Nor is it something taught
Some chase, some enjoy, while few brings
This phenomenon is like flying atop feathered wings

If you happen to encounter such a feeling
You won’t be able to hide what it’s revealing
For it is honest and pure, special like magic
It can even surface in a life, oh, so tragic

It comes and goes as it may please
Blind in sight, a heart from where it sees
It cannot be fooled, understanding past event
Sometimes it can feel almost heaven sent

Weightless, free, uninfluenced by corruption
It’s unaffected by momentary interruption
If you catch it, but let it leave
Returning to those who really believe

The goodness of a life can be forgot
When bad things start happening more often than not
Feeling like you may have lost it, coming back never
I promise, you won’t feel this way forever

It knows not the car you drive
Or the person who makes you feel alive
It knows only personal experience
With forgiveness and bravery granting clearance

If it appears to you and asks a name
Simply reply, "it’s all the same"
For Happiness doesn’t have formal presentation
It’s everywhere, waiting for an invitation
